چکیده

Methods: The mixed turbo spin echo pulse (mixed-TSE) sequence was implemented with second order binomial water-selective spatial-spectral excitation pulses (1), hereafter SSE-mixed-TSE (Figure 1). Mixed-TSE is a four time point pulse sequence that incorporates the principles of differential T1and T2-weighting in a single acquisition. By substituting the standard spatially-selective excitation pulses with binomial chemically-selective spatialspectral excitation pulses (Figure 1), a chemically specific qMRI pulse sequence results. As noted, a second-order binomial (1-2-1) pulse was employed for SSE-mixed-TSE consisting 22.5°-45°-22.5° spatially selective pulses interspaced by 2.3ms. Key imaging parameters: 40 slices/ 0.937x0.937x4.4mm/ 8,120msTE1, 2/ 700,4065msTI1, 2 and 8130msTR.

Characterization of Cerebral White Matter Properties Using Quantitative Magnetic Resonance Imaging Stains

The image contrast in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is highly sensitive to several mechanisms that are modulated by the properties of the tissue environment. The degree and type of contrast weighting may be viewed as image filters that accentuate specific tissue properties. Maps of quantitative measures of these mechanisms, akin to microstructural/environmental-specific tissue stains, may be...

Tissue microstructure characterisation through relaxometry and diffusion MRI using sparse component analysis

We introduce a new approach to characterise brain tissue microstructure combining diffusion MRI and relaxometry. The tissue is modelled as a composition of water pools with distinct T2 and diffusivities. Mathematically, we establish a blind source separation framework that we solve using sparse component analysis. Results show that this technique is able to extract distinct diffusion and relaxo...

Multi-Compartment T2 Relaxometry Using a Spatially Constrained Multi-Gaussian Model

The brain's myelin content can be mapped by T2-relaxometry, which resolves multiple differentially relaxing T2 pools from multi-echo MRI. Unfortunately, the conventional fitting procedure is a hard and numerically ill-posed problem. Consequently, the T2 distributions and myelin maps become very sensitive to noise and are frequently difficult to interpret diagnostically. Although regularization ...

A New Strategy for Fast MRI-Based Quantification of the Myelin Water Fraction: Application to Brain Imaging in Infants

The volume fraction of water related to myelin (fmy) is a promising MRI index for in vivo assessment of brain myelination, that can be derived from multi-component analysis of T1 and T2 relaxometry signals. However, existing quantification methods require rather long acquisition and/or post-processing times, making implementation difficult both in research studies on healthy unsedated children ...

Comparison of Two Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Measurement Methods Used For Anatomical Localization of the Iron-Incorporated Deep Brain Nuclei

Introduction Quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) is a new contrast mechanism in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The images produced by the QSM enable researchers and clinicians to easily localize specific structures of the brain, such as deep brain nuclei. These nuclei are targets in many clinical applications and therefore their easy localization is a must. In this study, we aimed to i...
